25th and 26th June – Making fairy castles and elder flower fritters in the woods.

Elder flower fritters-

100g Plain flower

2 tablespoons of oil

175ml Sparkling mineral water

1 table spoon of sugar

1 egg white

And then for the elder flower!

We all followed the recipe to make the batter..

Next we headed out to the woods.. With the mixture in hand!

Once we got to the woods we went and made fairy castles while the fire was lit. 19 20 21 22 23 24

The competition was strong.. And we had some amazing castles being created all over the woods!

But shortly the elder flower fritters where ready to eat, so we all finished our castles..31 33 34 35 36 37

We filled our tummy’s with yummy elder flower before we all headed home.

18th and 19th June 2015 – Lemon drizzle cake & enjoying the garden in the sun!

First of all we mixed up all the ingredients for our lemon cakes..

Lemon drizzle cake recipe-

6oz Sugar

6oz Butter

3 eggs

6oz self raising flower

1 tsp Baking powder

grated zest of a lemon

Drizzle – Juice of a lemon and some sugar

Then we headed out to enjoy some sun, while our cakes were cooking..6 (1) 6

We made our way round the garden looking out all the pretty flowers..14 15 17 16 18 19

Then we had a bit of a race down the hill before heading back..

Once we got back we had a little play outside and then enjoyed our lemon drizzle cake which was YUM!

 

11th and 12th June 2015- Soda bread, Elder flower cordial and card making.

We started the morning with making soda bread,

Recipe-

Mix 300g flour..

With 1 tsp salt and 1 tsp bicarbonate of soda.

Then add around 400g yogurt/milk

And mix an till you get a nice dough!

Then we headed out for a walk while the bread baked.

On our travels we were enjoying the flowers and spotted some bee’s!

Next we picked some elder flowers to make cordial, before heading back to eat some yummy soda bread.

After all the bee’s we had seen on our walk we read ‘The very greedy bee’

To finish off our day we made some hand painted cards for fathers day!20 (1) 20 21 22 23 2724 25 26  28

4th and 5th June 2015- cheese scones, flower pressing and painting!

We started off by making some cheese scones..

Recipe-

3oz plain flour

3oz self raising

1oz butter

1 teaspoon baking powder

2-3 tablespoons of milk

3oz grated cheese

1 egg

1/2 teaspoon of salt

Then we put them in the oven to cook while we went hunting for petals and leaves..

We walked round the garden enjoying the sun and looked for any petals, flowers or leaves that had fallen off..

Once we found enough we headed back to eat our cheese scones! 18 19 20 21

Once we had filled our tummies, we pressed the plants we had found on our walk and did some painting!

21st and 22nd May 2015- Soda Bread, A walk round the garden and seed planting.

After walking round the garden we ate the warm soda bread, before making some pots..

We planted pumpkins, runner beans, butternut squash and sweetcorn in the pots we made from newspaper.

Last of all we played in the Garden & looked at the baby chicks.

14th and 15th May 2015- Vanilla and rhubarb cake, story time and plaster leaf and petal decorations.

 

Before we went out we made a vanilla and rhubarb cake..

Recipe-

6oz Caster sugar

6oz Butter

3 Eggs

6oz Self raising flour

1 tsp Baking powder

1 tsp Vanilla extract

Bake at around 180 for 30-35 minutes.

Then we headed for the garden to find some leaves and petals..

Once we had a nice wonder, found lots of petals and leaves for our activity later and brought some rhubarb to take home! we headed back..

We then had our cake and covered the petals in plaster of paris so they could set while we read ‘Stuck’.

7th and 8th May 2015 – Rhubarb cake, A walk round the garden and planting runner beans!

We started off by preparing the cake..

Recipe-

6oz Caster sugar

6oz Butter

Beat in 3 eggs

fold in 6oz of self-raising flour

1 tsp Baking powder

zest of 1 orange

1 stick of rhubarb

Then we went for a wonder round the garden while it baked..

Last of all we made pots and planted some runner beans to take home!
